"The Modest Professional"

This workshop is designed to challenge professionals who support people with disabilities to reflect on the ideals and goals which brought them to the work in the first place.  We explore together whether assuming the role of "expert planner" has allowed them to stay true to those goals and ideals.  I present an alternative approach to professionalism, one which focuses on the professional as facilitator and colaborator rather than as expert, executive or director.  I provide examples of several professions where this facilitative function is the predominant model.  Plenty of time is spent on open discussion of the challenges presented by this approach.

This works well as a 3-hour workshop, with at least half of the time for group discussion -- the primary audience for this workshop includes clinicians, administrators and case managers.
