INTRODUCTION TO RESPECTFUL LISTENING
This 2-hour or half-day presentation/practicum helps people bring their ideals and practices into alignment in facing the challenges of treating people with limited communication as fellow citizens and fully respected members of the community. The session incudes disscussion on![]()
This session is particularly effective in conjunction with the help-day workshop on "collaborative problem-solving ."
- confronting the "privileges of fluency" and becoming a "communication ally"
- principles of respectful listening, including role-playing and problem-solving exercises
- principles of respectful speaking and effective communication
ON BECOMING A "COMMUNICATION ALLY"
This half-day workshop provides a rapid overview of the information covered in the "Introduction to respectful listening" workshop described above. Its specific focus, however, is on empowering the participation of individuals with limited communication in their own planning meetings, circles of support, and other opportunities for self-advocacy.
